During the semester break OIT will make changes to increase the security of university-owned workstations. By way of background, ransomware attacks continue affecting multiple universities with recent attacks leading to canceled face-to-face and online classes, in some cases for several days.
The changes will reduce the impact of ransomware attacks. Further, should Mary Baldwin ever be affected, the increased security configuration will reduce and delay malicious activity.
Most people won’t notice any changes. The security changes limit one’s ability to install or update software on an individual workstation. Should you need to install software or have problems with your workstation after Dec. 20, please contact the Help Desk x7075 (540-887-7075)
